September Is Life Insurance Awareness Month

In recent years, the interest in life insurance has increased, with 31% of Americans saying they are more likely to purchase coverage. However, 41% of Americans still lack sufficient coverage. Lack of knowledge about life insurance contributes to the gap, with only 31% considering themselves knowledgeable. Misconceptions about cost and uncertainty about coverage needs are also common. Life Insurance Awareness Month provides resources to educate the public and promote informed decision-making.1,2

During this month, individuals can access insights about life insurance ownership and its role in an overall financial strategy. By increasing awareness and addressing misconceptions, we can help bridge the coverage gap and better position families to manage their financial future. Resources are available to provide insights into the factors influencing life insurance ownership and life insurance's role in financial management. By taking advantage of these resources, individuals can better understand their life insurance needs and take proactive steps toward their family's future.

Factors affecting the cost and availability of life insurance: age, health, type, and amount of insurance. Policies have expenses: mortality and other charges. Surrendering early may result in surrender charges and tax implications. Consider insurability before implementing a life insurance strategy. Policy guarantees depend on the insurance company's ability to make claim payments.

The Art of “Forest Bathing”: A Meditative Moment in the Great Outdoors

Shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing, refers to spending time in a forest environment, which has been found to have positive effects on mental and physical health. Research has shown that forest bathing can help regulate blood pressure, activate the parasympathetic nervous system, improve the immune system, and defend against anxiety, stress, and depression. Forest bathing has been recognized in Japan's national health service as an intervention for mental health.

There is no specific way to practice forest bathing, but activities such as walking, standing, sitting, and deep breathing while being mindful of the senses are common. Even a short session of 15 minutes can benefit mental health. Turning off electronic devices and engaging in mindful wandering is suggested by experts. While forest bathing may not solve all problems, it can serve as a means to find emotional stability and inner peace in today's challenging times.3

Did You Know?

Julius Caesar created our current calendar.

In 46 B.C., the Roman emperor decreed that a year would begin on January 1 and last 365 days, with an extra day added every four years to reflect the Earth's orbit of the sun properly. Before that, three out of every four Roman years lasted 355 days, while every fourth year lasted 377 or 378 days.

On the Bright Side

A 72-year-old man named Sam Kaplan recently earned his undergraduate degree in Cinema and Media Arts from Georgia Gwinnett College, becoming the first among his seven siblings to achieve a bachelor's degree. Kaplan's 99-year-old mother cheered him on during the graduation ceremony. Despite the challenges of returning to a classroom setting after many decades, Kaplan formed relationships with his much younger classmates by taking an interest in their academic goals and dreams.4
